Vietnam Airlines eyes the region's second position

VGP - General Director of Vietnam Airlines (VNA) Phạm Ngọc Minh said that the national flight carrier is striving to rank the region's second top aviation company in 7-8 years despite the world's hard competition and global economic downturn in 2009.

With the slogan of "Standing firmly for development", VNA has adopted various measures, such as promoting internal strength, carrying out thrift practice, cutting costs, taking full advantage of opportunities to improve competitiveness, and heading to the future".

Besides, the company will continue to speed up investment in infrastructure.

The General Director released that VNA is ready for the next development phrase by planning to buy 39 planes of Boeing 787-9, Airbus A350-900, A321. Solutions for upgrading flight crews and increasing their salary are also put into consideration.

Ahead of the Lunar New Year, the routes linking Hà Nội with the southern city of Cần Thơ and the central province of Bình Định will have been launched.

Vietnam Airlines now operates 50 aircraft and plans to expand its fleet to 150 by 2020. It flies to 23 international destinations. It is expected to carry 9,460,300 passengers in 2009, up 7.3% against 2008.
