Vietnamese children enjoy a comprehensive development
VNGOVNet – Vietnam is a good example for other countries to follow in child care and protection. The country has successfully observed international commitments and declarations relating to children’s rights. Deep interest and political commitments at the top level help to create unity, consensus and aggregate strength to build up a bright future for Vietnamese children.

The UNICEF hailed Vietnam so, as one of the first countries that early fulfilled successfully millennium goals, including realizing children’s rights for health care, education and protection.
At the National Midterm Review on ‘A World Fit for Children" Document held on March 26-27, UNICEF reconfirmed to side with Vietnam in the cause of child care and protection. Standing Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng attended and delivered an address at the Review.
Being the first Asian country and the second in the world ratifying the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), after 15 years to implement the CRC and five years to realize the "A World Fit for Children" Document as well as her National Action Program for Children 2001-2010, Vietnam has gained worthy achievements. Up to June 2006, nearly 8.5 million under-6-year-old children were granted with free medical treatment cards (equivalent to 96%). Child protection was included in the nation’s socio-economic development plans. About 90% of disadvantaged children are expected to enjoy care and support by 2010. At present, 100% orphans and disabled children are exempted from tuition and other schooling. The education of disabled children is considered an annual task at all educational levels: nursery, primary and secondary.

Addressing the Review, Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng affirmed that the Vietnamese Government will provide higher supports, investments, and best conditions for children to develop comprehensively, contributing to improve the country’s future human resource. At the same time, the Government will consider child care and protection as a major task.
The Deputy PM emphasized that the Vietnamese Party, State and Government always pay attention to child care, protection and education. It is necessary to create an equal and healthy environment for children, where they can study and play. All disadvantaged children must be supported, said Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng.
Acting on behalf of the Vietnamese Government, the Deputy PM highly appreciated and thanked the UN, international organizations and various countries for their assistance to Vietnam in fulfilling millennium goals and child care as well.
