VN calls on EU to reconsider anti-dumping duties on shoes

The EU Permanent Representatives Committee’s (COREPER) voting on December 17 paved the way for the Committee (Coreper) to extend anti-dumping tax on Vietnamese leather-capped shoes.

According to the Spokesperson, the decision was unfair, unjust, and inappropriate to the flourishing friendship and cooperation between Việt Nam and the EU. It does not soundly describe the business and production realities of the footwear industry in Việt Nam, she added, stressing that the decision disappoints the Government, business circle and people of Việt Nam.

The Spokesperson affirmed that Vietnamese footwear enterprises do not dump their products, have no intension and competence to pursue the policy as they are medium and small-sized enterprises and do outwork for both European and foreign partners.

When the global economy was still in financial crisis, the extension of anti-pumping tax would worsen business performance of Vietnamese enterprises and lives of Vietnamese workers while causing negative impacts on the European footwear producers operating in Việt Nam and their clients in Europe.

Once again, Việt Nam suggested that EU’s member states and the EC reconsider the case in an objective and fair manner and early remove the tax on Việt Nam’s leather-capped shoes./.
