VN: Export turnover rise strongly in first seven months

VNGOP – According to the Ministry of Trade, in the first seven months of 2007, total export turnover reached US$ 26.79 billion, increasing by 19.6 percent against the same period last year. The monthly average increase was US$ 3.83 billion, lower than the target of US$ 3.96 billion.

High growth seen in export and import turnovers

In July 2007, export turnover was US$ 4.25 billion, increasing by 19.2 percent compared to July 2006 and slightly higher than that of last month.

In the total increase of US$ 26.79 billion, domestic enterprises contributed US$ 11.717 billion (43.4 percent) and the foreign-invested sector US$ 15.073 billion (46.6 percent).

The total import turnover reached US$ 32.243 billion, increasing by 29.8 percent against the same period last year, in which domestic businesses gained US$ 20.823 billion and foreign-invested enterprises US$ 11.42 billion, accounting for 64.6 percent and  35.4 percent respectively.

Turnover of major exports increased

In the first seven months, nine major exports obtained a higher turnover growth rate than the country's average. They were coffee ( 102 percent), coal ( 22.8 percent), electronics and computer spare parts ( 24.6 percent), handicraft and fine arts products ( 21.3 percent), wooden products ( 25.1 percent), plastic goods ( 49 percent), electric wires and cables ( 47 percent), handbags, suitcases and umbrellas ( 28.4 percent).

The export turnover of marine products in the last seven months was US$ 1.981 billion, going up by 15 percent compared to the same period of 2006; textiles and garments US$ 4.24 billion, increasing by 28.6 percent.   

Agricultural products (excluding rice and rubber) gained an export turnover equivalent to that of the same period last year. Others achieved a relatively high growth rate thanks to good prices and favorable market conditions.

Service export was US$ 3.42 billion (rising by 19.6 percent) while service import was US$ 3.775 billion (12.4 percent).

In July, Việt Nam welcomed 330,000 turns of international tourists, going up by 22 percent against the same period of 2006.

Total turnover of commodity and service retail increased by 23.1 percent

The totality of commodity retail and service turnover in the first seven months was estimated to be VND 394.5 trillion, increasing by 23.1 percent compared to the same period last year. The consumer price index went up by 6.19 percent against December 2006.
