VN joins first teleconference of ASEAN Committee in Washington Meeting

VGP – Ambassador of Viet Nam to the U.S. Ha Kim Ngoc joined other Ambassadors and Chargé d'Affaires of ASEAN nations in the first teleconference of the ASEAN Committee in Washington (ACW) Meeting, which was chaired by Cambodian Ambassador to the U.S. Chum Sounry.

At the meeting, Ambassadors and Chargé d'Affaires of ASEAN nations discussed outcomes of the ASEAN Special Summit and the ASEAN 3 Special Summit on COVID-19 Response on April 14 and the Special ASEAN-U.S. Foreign Ministers' Meeting on COVID-19 via a videoconference on April 23. 

The delegates congratulated Viet Nam on its timely, proactive and flexible responses to complex developments of COVID-19 as the nation is undertaking the ASEAN Chairmanship 2020. 

They spoke highly of the initiatives of Viet Nam in promoting cooperation within ASEAN and between ASEAN and its partners, including the U.S. in coping with COVID-19. 

They highlighted the importance of maintaining connectivity of the supply chain in food, pharmacy and health equipment. 

The diplomats agreed that ASEAN needs to continue enhancing efforts in pandemic prevention and control, vaccine research and treatment, making contributions to deepening the ASEAN-US strategic partnership. 

Ambassador Ngoc updated about the positive outcomes of Viet Nam's fight against COVID-19, adding that made-in-Viet Nam COVID-19 test kits have been recognized by the World Health Organization and European nations. 

The paticipants highly valued Viet Nam’s measures to prevent the transmission of the virus and its support for other ASEAN nations./.
