VN joins international convention on maritime search and rescue

VNGOVNet – Following the proposal of the National Committee for Search and Rescue and recommendations from the ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng agreed on December 27 that Vietnam will join the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue 1979 (Convention SAR 79).

The PM assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to complete diplomatic procedures of joining the Convention and to inform relevant agencies of the date on which the Convention becomes effective in Vietnam.

The PM also requested the National Committee for Search and Rescue in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and the relevant ministries to put the Convention into practice after Vietnam becomes a signatory to it and to draft a Government decree governing the authorization and coordination between international search and rescue teams in Vietnam and to design a national plan on search and rescue in the sea which will be submitted to competent agencies for approval.
