VN protests Taiwan’s construction on Ba Bình Island

VNGOP – All activities in the Hoàng Sa (Paracels) and Trường Sa (Spratly) Archipelagos which are not approved by Việt Nam are violations of Việt Nam’s sovereignty over the areas and are devoid of legal value, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lê Dũng on November 15.

The Spokesman made the statement against Taiwan’s reconstruction of a runway and a memorial stele on the island of Ba Bình, Trường Sa Archipelago, as reported by Taiwan’s Zhongxin and China’s People Daily websites.

He confirmed that Việt Nam possesses adequate historical evidence and legal foundations to proclaim its sovereignty over the two archipelagos.

“Việt Nam resolutely protests Taiwan’s reconstruction of a runway on the island of Ba Bình, Trường Sa Archipelago, considering this activity a serious infringement of Việt Nam’s sovereignty. We require Taiwan to immediately stop the above-mentioned activities as well as similar violations in the Trường Sa Archipelago", said Mr. Lê Dũng.
