The country has timely and fairly closely monitored the quality, hygiene and safety of the imported foodstuffs, with the aim to protecting consumers’ health and environment, preventing the spread of diseases, according to the ministry’s assessment.

The safety and hygiene criteria applied in Việt Nam are following the international ones, added the ministry.

Việt Nam has permitted 2,049 seafood producers in 22 countries and 18,879 terrestrial animal-based foodstuff producers from 13 nations to export their products to the Souttheast Asian country. Of those, the US has 16,930, Canada has 1,599, and China, 419.

The ministry also said that in the coming time, it will adjust some technical measures to strengthen the control of imported foodstuffs, including animals’ internal organs and plant-based items.
