On the threshold of the Nuclear Security Summit, on April 12 (local time) in Washington DC, US Vice President Joseph Biden met with Vietnamese PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and leaders of some countries.

The leaders discussed the international community’s priority issues regarding nuclear security.

At the meeting, PM Dũng confirmed that Việt Nam wants to take advantage of nuclear power for national development while strongly supporting nuclear disarmament towards a nuclear weapon-free world.

The Vietnamese PM stressed that the Nuclear Security Summit and a meeting to review the implementation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in May will offer important opportunities for nations to show their political will and concrete commitments on nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, and safe use of nuclear power for peaceful purposes.

He said these are inter-related issues which should be solved in a comprehensive manner.
