VN to import 100,000 tones of meat in 2011

VGP – Vietnamese businesses will import around 100,000 tones of meat to meet growing demands of the domestic market, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Domestic market may need around 2.9 tons of meat in 2011, up 6.5-7% against last year, forecasted MIT.

The Ministry attributed the big surge in meat import this year to sharp drop in domestic outputs following severe impacts of bad weather and epidemics including the appearance of ‘blue ear pig disease’ in 2010./.
