VN treasures traditional friendship, cooperation with Ethiopia

VGP – Viet Nam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Ethiopia, affirmed State President Tran Dai Quang ahead of his state visit to the African country.

Quang is the first Head of State of Viet Nam to visit Ethiopia since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1976.

Despite geographical distance, Viet Nam and Ethiopia share various similarities, especially both sides are developing countries with young and abundant workforce and determined to boost economic growth and improve people’s living standards.

According to State President Quang, Ethiopia has emerged to become a “tiger of Africa” with the annual average growth rate of above 10% during the past decade and Addis Ababa capital is regarded as the heart of Africa as it is home to more than 90 headquarters of regional and international organizations, including the African Union.

Ethiopia is playing an increasingly active role in maintaining peace, security and stability in the region and the world, said State President Quang.

Quang said during the visit, he will hold talks with President Mulatu Teshome, meet with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and top legislators of Ethiopia to discuss ways to beef up bilateral ties, with a focus on enhancing political trust and trade and investment cooperation.

He will meet with leaders of the African Union to seek ways to strengthen multifaceted cooperation, especially in economic domain, with the African Union and its member countries, as well as coordination at the United Nations, Non-aligned Movement, South-South cooperation among others.

Quang expressed his belief that the visit would usher in a new period of effective cooperation between Viet Nam and Ethiopia./.
