The fourth conference of the working group of the Vietnamese provinces of Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Lai Chau and Dien Bien, and the Chinese province of Yunnan, in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan, on June 3.

The Deputy PM stressed that relations between Vietnamese localities and Yunnan province have developed strongly in various areas since the two countries established the strategic comprehensive cooperation partnership in 2008.

Their cooperation mechanism has proved productive over the years, contributing to strengthening cooperation amongst border localities, bringing practical benefits to their people, and building a common border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development, said Nhan.

In 2011, the two-way trade between Vietnam and Yunnan was over US $1.2 billion. The Hanoi-Lao Cai expressway is scheduled to become operational by late 2013.

Earlier on June 2, Deputy PM Nhan met with Yunnan Governor Li Jiheng.

Highly appreciating the first visit by Deputy PM Nhan to Yunnan, Mr. Li Jiheng stressed that there is still room for cooperation between Yunnan and Vietnam in economy, trade, education, training, culture, sports, mining…

Yunnan authorities are ready to create conditions for improving cooperative ties between the Chinese province and Vietnamese localities, the Governor said.

DPM Nhan proposed the leaders of Yunnan and 4 Vietnamese localities bordering the Chinese province, namely Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Ha Giang and Lao Cai, maintain exchanges to boost the cooperative ties. The two sides should have smooth coordination to put into operation the steel factory with annual production capacity of 1 million tons in Lao Cai.
