Earlier, on April 15, the national flag carrier and Skyteam signed an agreement on VNA’s admission to the global airline alliance with the aim of promoting its cooperation and international integration.

The admission will be the premise for VNA to enhance its competitiveness and facilitate the recovery of the air transport market, said Mr. Phạm Ngọc Minh, VNA General Director.

After becoming Skyteam’s member and a strategic partner, VNA expects to carry 11 million passengers in 2010.

VNA will actively assist Skyteam’s current network and open new destinations in Indochina. Additionally, its customers will have opportunities to use high-quality aviation services.

VNA considers 2010 as the hinge year in its development strategy under which it wants to become the top carrier in the region.

In order to better its performance, the Corporation will receive 16 new planes, expanding its fleet to nearly 70, and further cooperate with foreign airlines, especially those in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

In 2009, VNA conducted over 72,000 flights, up 8% against 2008. It currently runs a fleet of 58 modern planes, including 34 Airbuss and 10 Boeing 777s.
