Volume of container cargos soars 18% in first 8 months

VGP - The volume of container cargos through Vietnamese seaports witnessed a year-on-year increase of 18% in the first eight month of 2021, reaching nearly 16.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), according to the Viet Nam Customs.

In the January-August period, the volume of exports through Vietnamese seaports was estimated at 5.4 million TEUs (representing a year-on-year increase of 16%) and imports at 5.5 million TEUs (year-on-year growth of 21%).

In the first seven months, several seaports saw a high volume of goods throughput, including Quang Nam (up 115%), Hai Phong(17%), and HCMC (16%). 

The volume of goods through some seaports remained high such as Ho Chi Minh City (14.8 million tons), Vung Tau (10.4 million tons), Quang Ninh (7.78 million tons) and Hai Phong (8.24 million tons).

In the first eight months, the total volume of goods through Viet Nam's seaports is estimated at more than 480.4 million tons, up 4% against the same period last year./.
