Vung Tau becomes first-grade city

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung has decided to recognize Vung Tau as the first-grade city.

Vung Tau City of the Southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau is about 120km away from Ho Chi Minh City and 95km from Dong Nai Province’s Bien Hoa.

The city’s total area is 15,000 ha, accounting for 7.31% of the natural land of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. Its population is 400,777 residents.

During the past three years, Vung Tau’s economy expanded above 17% annually. The GDP share of construction and industry reached 86.54%; while service-tourism and agriculture make up 11.5% and 0.52%, respectively.

Personal income stood at US$6,000 per year (excluding oil and gas), ranking first among provinces and cities across Viet Nam and about 5.2 times higher than the national personal income.

The city strives to raise the personal income figure to at least US$10,600 per year by 2015.

A part from being a national oil and gas center, Vung Tau is also home to beautiful landscapes, beaches and unique historical vestiges. Last year, the city welcomed over four million turns of visitors, earning VND 4-5 trillion./.
