The Southeast Asian nation is building a pool of mechanisms and polices to lure the world's top semiconductor giants, and to help Vietnamese enterprises gradually participate in the semiconductor industry value chain, said Pham.

Pham also said Viet Nam plans to train 50,000 workers for this industry by the end of this decade and to build a national semiconductor ecosystem with the participation of the Government, businesses, support organizations, universities, academies, and financial institutions.

He suggested Amkor continue assisting Viet Nam in developing semiconductor industry, especially in formulation of mechanisms and policies, technology transfer, human resource training, governance capacity improvement, infrastructure development, research and development; strengthen cooperation with the National Innovation Center (NIC).

Pham assigned the Northern province of Bac Ninh, where Amkor has opened a new US$1.6 billion packaging factory, to coordinate with ministries and agencies to timely resolve any feedback and proposals from Amkor Technology Viet Nam to ensure smooth operation of the factory.

For his part, Ji appreciated the support and assistance from the central and local governments for the group's investment in Viet Nam.

Ji said Amkor expects to employ highly skilled engineers and workers for its facility in Bac Ninh province, the second of its kind in North Viet Nam. The first plant was opened in the nearby province of Bac Giang in mid-September.

The Bac Ninh factory would help build the "secure and reliable supply chain our customers need", said Amkor President and COE Giel Rutten./.
