Tran voiced the aspiration yesterday in Ha Noi during a reception for IAEA Deputy Director General Hua Liu who is on a working visit to Viet Nam.

He thanked the IAEA for its support to Viet Nam over the past years through both bilateral and multilateral cooperation mechanisms. In the 2018-2023 period alone, the agency directly provided Viet Nam with nearly EUR3 million (US$3.26 million) for 17 national projects.

The Deputy Prime Minister spoke highly of Hua Liu's contribution to accelerating the signing of the cooperation framework program between Viet Nam and the IAEA for the 2022-2027 period, and his support to Viet Nam in amending the Law on Atomic Energy.

Viet Nam, said the host leader, vows to fulfill its obligations in the international treaties to which it is a signatory, especially those related to safety and security control, the fight against illegal trafficking and transportation of radioactive substances and nuclear materials, and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

He also asserted that Viet Nam always supports IAEA's central and leading role in shaping standards and frameworks for nuclear safety and security, especially emerging nuclear technologies.

In reply, the IAEA Deputy Director General briefed his host about the recent meetings with leaders from the Vietnamese Ministries of Science and Technology, Agriculture and Rural Development, and Health.

He also applauded Viet Nam's pioneering role in sub-regional cooperation, particularly in the trilateral cooperation model between Viet Nam and neighboring Laos and Cambodia in the application of nuclear science and technology in economic sectors.

Hua Liu also promised to support Viet Nam in mastermind nuclear technology in smart agriculture./.
