Viet Nam treasures Japan’s peace and humanitarian funds

The Government leader made the above statement durring his reception for Chairman Yohei Sasakawa of the Nippon Foundation and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation in Ha Noi on March 19.

He applauded the effectiveness of the foundations' assistance delivered via specific programs, including the Viet Nam-Japan defense exchange and initiatives aimed at poverty reduction and socio-economic development in Viet Nam's disadvantaged areas.

Tran expected that the Chairman would continue to contribute to strengthening political trust between the two countries and carry more support projects in Viet Nam.

In reply, the Chairman expressed his pleasure at the two countries upgrading their relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023.

He announced that over the past 40 years, the Nippon Foundation granted scholarships for about 80 Vietnamese students. The foundation has also provided around US$30 million in aid for socio-economic development projects and the vulnerable in society like building schools for children in remote areas and ethnic minorities, and providing artificial limbs and wheelchairs for people with disabilities.

Earlier, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense also received Honorary Chair of Japan’s Sasakawa Peace Foundation Sasakawa Yohei on the occasion of his visit to Viet Nam. 

General Phan hoped that the Sasakawa Peace Foundation and its Chairman would continue cooperation and support activities in Viet Nam in the fields of education, healthcare, environment, and human resource training, especially in helping people with disabilities, wounded and sick soldiers, and victims of Agent Orange/dioxin./.
